How to Cure Thrush Symptoms For Good

Amazingly more than three out of four of us will suffer thrush symptoms periodically in our lives. For many of us this will mean the beginning of an ongoing and miserable relationship with the microorganisms who thrive in and on the human body!

The microscopic yeast called Candida albicans infests virtually all human beings, and the lucky ones don't even realize that it is, or rather 'they' are, there. Ideally other microbes of a helpful nature - particularly those well known 'TV yoghurt commercials' stars - the genus Lactobacillus - keep Candida under control by producing Lactic acid which stops Candida from unrestrained growth.

When our body is out of balance and our friendly bacteria are reduced in numbers - for example as a result of getting ill and/or taking a course of antibiotics - then yeast cells can start to cause havoc and grow quickly into large colonies. This means that unpleasant clusters of aggravating white colonies of yeast can trigger the condition variously known as Candidiasis, yeast infection or thrush.

Thrush symptoms therefore make life miserable for many millions of women, and men, everywhere across the globe every year. This naturally occurring yeast goes into overdrive it causes the symptoms of thrush which tends to occur in warm, moist areas of the body for example: the throat, the vagina and under the foreskin. This leads to irritation, discomfort and soreness. In the case of vaginal yeast infections it can lead to socially embarrassing itchiness and infected persons may also suffer an unpleasant cottage cheese like, yeasty-smelling discharge.

Candida albicans is just one of the many parasitic micro-organisms living in or on the human body. When it has the opportunity to overwhelm the system due to having lost too many 'good bacteria' thrush symptoms can be experienced in different sections of the body including the vagina, foreskin, throat, guts, stomach and moist external areas such as armpits and fold in the skin. Candida can't be said to be a major health problem under normal conditions but when an over growth occurs it can lead to chronic symptoms that can be very aggravating and socially inhibiting.

Thrush symptoms can be suffered by males as well as females. In the male yeast infection is most likely to be a problem for men with foreskins. They will also most likely feel itchiness and aggravation in the entry to to their urethra. If men or women are involved in a sexually active lifestyle either partner, if infected with yeast that causes thrush symptoms, can pass the infection on to the other. Both partners should always undergo treatment at the same time to avoid recycling the infection.

If untreated for a period of time an overgrowth of Candida will most probably colonize the intestines where it can potentially lead to more major problems. This scenario includes getting into the bloodstream and allowing colonies to establish themselves in many vulnerable areas. Some researchers even suggest that Candida might become the precursor to much more serious illness.

The normal medication that your doctor or chemist would prescribe to you for a Candida problem may not suit everyone as some people can be sensitive to drug treatments. Side effects from pessaries, creams and tablet can include nausea, dizziness and diarrhea. Yeast infection creams can also interfere with rubber prophylactics so this should also be considered.

It is fair to say that many people do find some relief from typical yeast infection medications because the purpose of such drug-based interventions is to salve the discomfort of yeast infection symptoms. However such treatments are not always effective for prolonged periods because they do not cure the real underlying cause of the Candida infection. As suggested above a yeast infection tends to arise from the loss of friendly bacteria sources.

It is interesting to note therefore that more holistic approaches that examine lifestyle and its day-to-day impact on the overall health and wellness of the body, and focuses on an effort to restore the natural balance of the biological system are providing great relief for many chronic Candida symptom sufferers.

There are some things you can do to cure some of the discomfort of an episode of yeast infection. For example you should avoid wearing tight-fitting undergarments, particularly of synthetic fibres. Such clothing increases the tendency to sweat, and making the area even more warm and moist only causes the symptoms to persist. Keeping the infected area dry, fresh and clean and also airy is a better option.

The foods you consume can also provide the setting for yeast cells proliferating. A major example and prime food for yeast is sugar. So cutting out any unnecessary intake of sugars is a good idea both to reduce the amount of food for Candida to live on, and for your overall health.

You should also consider that as Candida is normally controlled by the presence of lactic acid producing 'good bacteria' you might try and restore the balance of the good microbes within your system. Most abundantly they are found in the intestines and experts have recommended the taking a good quality probiotic that should contain the appropriate Lactobacillus family of bacteria has been found to help greatly for many people. This theory also relates to the eating yoghurt or even applying yoghurt into the vagina using a tampon to increase lactic acid forming bacteria in the areas where they may be needed, and hopefully bring more lasting relief from aggravating thrush symptoms.
